"Louis Emmitt-Stern is a rising star playwright" Time Out

Louis is an award-winning writer, director and theatre-maker from Gibraltar based in London.

He won Soho Theatre's Tony Craze Award for his play SLIPPERY, which premiered at Omnibus Theatre, London, starring John McCrea and Perry Williams. His play I FUCKED YOU IN MY SPACESHIP received a sold-out premiere at VAULT Festival, winning the Origins Award for Outstanding New Work. It subsequently transferred to Soho Theatre, London. 

Louis' adaptation of MANSFIELD PARK, from the novel by Austen, premiered in a site-specific production at Jane Austen's House, Chawton. His other work includes SNAKES AND LADDERS (Southwark Playhouse), and IS THIS US FADING OUT (Watford Palace Theatre). In 2023, Louis recieved a HM Government of Gibraltar Cultural Award for Special Achievement, recognising his contribution to arts and culture. 

Louis has taught and worked at several of the UK’s leading drama schools and Universities, including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Guildford School of Acting, University of Surrey, The Oxford School of Drama, East 15 Acting School, University of Essex, Tisch/New York University (NYU) and Royal Holloway, and for theatres including Battersea Arts Centre, Soho Theatre, Omnibus Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, Riverside Studios, and Exeter Northcott. 

He trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MFA), and is an alumnus of the Gibraltar Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Soho Theatre Writers Lab, Soho Writers Alumni Group, National Theatre Young Playwrights Programme, Lyric  Hammersmith Young Directors Course, and Oxford Playhouse Playmakers. 

 

He is represented by Maddie O’Dwyer at Berlin Associates. His plays are published by Nick Hern Books.
