MANSFIELD PARK
MANSFIELD PARK
By Louis Emmitt-Stern
Adapted from the novel by Jane Austen
Shy and vulnerable Fanny Price is an outsider amongst her rich relatives at Mansfield Park, with only her cousin Edmund by her side. But when the dazzling and magnetic Mary Crawford and her brother Henry arrive from London, their charisma and reckless flirtations captivate everyone – except Fanny. As their seductive charm begins to unravel the fabric of the household, Fanny’s strength of character is put to its greatest test.
This contemporary adaptation reimagines Austen’s most theatrical story for the stage, while retaining the spirit and much of the language of the original novel.
Mansfield Park was commissioned and developed by Guildford School of Acting, Jane Austen's House, and The Arts Society Rudgwick. It premiered in a full-production at Guildford School of Acting, in May 2025, to celebrate 250 years of Jane Austen. It was performed by 15 MA Acting graduates in collaboration with BA Theatre Production and MA Stage Management graduates. An earlier version was performed at Jane Austen's House, Chawton, in July 2024, as part of a development workshop.
